Parterre Ecological is a comprehensive ecological team integrating principles of ecology and horticulture to protect, promote and restore natural habitats. We are dedicated to managing the planning, permitting, implementation and ongoing maintenance of a wide range of ecological restoration projects for Greater Boston’s most committed clientele. We produce resilient, low-maintenance solutions that protect open space conservation lands, promote green infrastructure in urban environments, and restore native plant communities.
Mission
To thoughtfully design, plant and maintain aesthetically compelling native plant compositions that hold valuable ecosystem services while creating inspired, naturally occurring environments that reflect resilient habitats.
Ecological Planning and Design:
Parterre Ecological engages our clients in the planning and design for their unique restoration projects. With a comprehensive understanding of client goals combined with a thorough analysis of each site, we fully develop Land Management Plans for town Conservation Commission approval. From native wetland restorations to wildflower meadows; we analyze and prepare documentation about the existing plant communities and propose restoration methods through graphical representation and images to create inspired native plant communities.
Invasive Plant Management:
Parterre Ecological has a dedicated team that combine the most current industry standards with site specific requirements for effective invasive plant control. Each customized program identifies the relative abundance and distribution of the invasive plant population before determining the best practices of control. By integrating fully organic programs in sensitive areas to low-impact herbicide application treatments from licensed pesticide applicators over a phased timeline, populations of invasive plant species are managed with least impact to the natural environment.
Native Plant Restoration:
Parterre Ecological identifies and diversifies the existing native plant community on each project site. We begin by analyzing the presence, relative abundance and distribution of the native plants and allow the inventory to define the native plant community. We look to find the native plants that are inherently absent from the plant community due to invasive disruption, and restore them. By integrating custom native seed blends to locally sourced native trees and shrubs, native plants are restored to the natural environment.
Monitoring and Maintenance:
Not only do we design, but our team will install and maintain the site for effective control with a long-term maintenance plan. By evaluating strategies for the effectiveness of control for each site, a reduction in invasive plant species is reduced and native plant establishment is stabilized over a phased time-line.
Our Projects
Our clients include municipal town agencies, LEED certified school and municipal buildings, conservation agencies, and numerous private clients. Our work allows us to protect native plant communities, promote green infrastructure and corridors in our urban environments, and restore wetlands, woodlands and waterways.
