Our company has a monitoring program that informs managers, clients, and conservation commissions about the composition and size of existing invasive populations. The program reports assist in prioritizing work efforts, while also evaluating the effectiveness of control strategies in real time.
Prior to completing any invasive plant management, we establish permanent plots in which the percent cover of invasive versus native plants is documented and photographed. On an annual basis for the length of the restoration efforts, we inventory the plots to determine composition and percent reduction in invasive plant species. Many invasive plants have seed remaining in the soil after the plant has been manually cut or removed, as a result, control of seed sprouts should be a part of the management strategy.
